Gleaner K2 usage

Typical usage of the Gleaner K2 (flex heads or not) on corn, wheat, oats, rye - what cylinder speed to use, fan speed and concave settings, sieve setting.

You will find most of the stuff in the Operator Manual (it will not be in the service manual). For cylinder speeds - use a pulley and belt for small grain, the pulley around 8-9" or so. A corn and bean pulley is larger, around 14-15" and a separate belt. There are other pulley sizes available but with these two you will be pretty well covered. You don't need to loosen tightener in order to switch belts - just hook a comealong in between the drive axle and the tightener (the one on the main countershaft - the one driving the variable speed sheave) idler, then simply pull down and you can switch the belts.

Basic settings for dry corn are 500 rpm, 3 concaves with around 1" (or just under) clearance, about 1/2" on sieve and 5/8 on the chaffer. High moisture corn will require other settings.

With corn - use the low speed pulley and retract the concave knives. In the corn kit there is a rea shield-mount included to deflect material so it goes forward and down into the chopper. There is also a rubber curtain, used for corn only (not small grains). The rear shield usually stays put once you have installed it except for green soybeans etc might restrict flow. For corn, you need the rubber curtain mounted, and the steel shield situated under the walkers. If this was not the case, the walkers could get destoyed by cobs getting thrown back.

For corn, the chaffer will probably be the limiting factor (when it comes to the speed per hour). With a 330 head and a K2 you should be able to get up to 2,500 bushels in one day and use up around 45 gallons of gas.
